Electro-acupuncture means running an electric current through specific acupuncture points or connecting points on a meridian with electricity to stimulate the flow of Qi, or energy. Electro-acupuncture will stimulate the points more aggressively than dry needles for a longer lasting effect. It does not hurt the patient at all. In fact, many of our patients relax and fall asleep while they are receiving the treatment. It is not appropriate for all acupuncture patients, for example a patient with a history of seizures or epilepsy should not have electro-acupuncture.
