Heartworm and Flea Control

Monthly heartworm prevention is extremely important for the health of both dogs and cats. It is essential to prevent this severe and deadly infection. In Georgia, we recommend heartworm prevention year round without exception, even for indoor cats and dogs. Remember, it only takes one mosquito to transmit heartworm disease to your pet.

Annual heartworm testing is required for dogs before new prescriptions can be filled. This is usually done at your pet’s annual wellness visit. If you realize, however, that you have forgotten to give your pet heartworm prevention for over a month, we recommend repeat testing before starting back on prevention.

We recommend and sell Trifexis for heartworm prevention AND flea control for dogs. It is a once-a-month tablet.

We recommend monthly Revolution for our feline patients for flea control and heartworm prevention.

There are also many over the counter types of topical and oral flea control. Some of them work well and some do not. We are happy to answer your questions about safety and efficacy of other flea and tick products.

If your pet has a severe flea or tick problem, our veterinarians and technicians can help you decide on the best treatments, including environmental treatment if needed.
