As you may know, there is an outbreak of canine influenza in the Atlanta area. In case you did not see it, please read our recent notice: Canine Influenza Update

We have continued to see a number of coughing dogs at EAAC. All of the patients we tested for canine influenza have come back positive for the H3N2 virus (the newer strain). Please note that multiple boarding facilities in the area have been affected by canine influenza. We continue to recommend that you keep your dog away from places where dogs congregate. This includes dog parks, doggie daycare, boarding facilities, and any other place where dogs congregate. If you must board your dog, ask the boarding facility about the precautions they are taking.

If you suspect your dog has been exposed to canine influenza, be on the lookout for signs such as coughing, sneezing, nasal and/or eye discharge, lethargy, loss of appetite, and fever. Be aware that signs generally appear within 2-4 days of exposure.

In an effort to minimize exposure to our patients, we are still not scheduling healthy pet drop-offs. We also continue to use separate entrances for healthy pets and coughing pets. Please look at the signs on the doors before entering. We will update you when these protocols change.

As always, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
